Hawaiian Preschool Party Ideas
- Decorate your room, home or yard to set the mood for the party. Citrus-colored streamers, cutouts of palm trees and other pictures of Hawaii make great wall decorations. Large, tropical table umbrellas, pineapples, and tiki torches will also help set the scene. If you are outside you can create a beach with some sand, lawn chairs and beach towels. Children also love to play in water, so set up a sprinkler or kiddie pool if it is a nice warm day.
- When throwing a party for children, finger food is the easiest choice for party snacks. Cut up pieces of ham for a Hawaiian-themed meat. Fresh fruit is an appropriate and popular choice for a Hawaiian party. Set out pineapple, banana, mango and kiwi. Cheese and crackers always round out a great party menu for kids. Serve punch to drink. For dessert, a coconut cake and pineapple upside-down cake are delicious Hawaiian-themed sweets.
- Preschoolers will love dressing up for the party. Encourage the parents to dress their children in their bathing suits or bright summer clothing. As each guest arrives at the party, adorn them with a lei, a traditional Hawaiian greeting. Get the kids grass skirts to wear during the party, or as a craft you can help the kids make their own grass skirts out of construction paper. If the kids will be outside and potentially playing in water, remind the parents ahead of time to bring a change of clothing.
- Have the kids learn how to hula dance for a fun activity. Play some Hawaiian music and have the kids gather around. Show them how to put their hands up in the air and rotate their waist in a circle, keeping the beat of the music. Another move is to show them how to wave their arms in front of them while they move to the left and the right. Allow all the kids to express themselves in their own unique style of hula dancing and have fun.
