    Origins

    • The Codex Alimentarius Commission was created by the WHO and the FAO to bring together more than 180 member governments to regulate food safety and fair trade standards. Codex is composed of 20 committees and includes a collection of internationally recognized food standards and technical procedures.

    Goals

    • The primary focus of the Codex Alimentarius Commission is to ensure that consumers have access to safe food worldwide. Codex establishes nutritional goals and objectives for specific food groups, as well as specific population groups, such as infants.

    Activities

    • Codex is involved in several activities to monitor safety and equality in food production. One of their primary tasks is regulating food labeling standards for accuracy. Codex also works to create international standards for food packaging and shipping.
