How to Make a Compost Spreader
- 1). Look for an old wheelbarrow at a garage sale, a dump, or even ask some friends or neighbors if they have. If you already have one you are already a step ahead to making your very own compost spreader.
- 2). Use a saw with a metal cutting blade to cut a window at the end of the wheelbarrow. Make the cuts right where the sides meet the bottom. The opening should be approximately 2-3 inches wide and run from side to side at the front.
- 3). Bend the cut edges toward the outside of the wheelbarrow so that you don't cut yourself on them when using the compost spreader.
- 4). Load the wheelbarrow with a pile full of your compost and pull the spreader through your garden. Do not shake it side to side or push it as it works best when you pull it behind you. The compost spreader will leave even clumps of compost in your garden.
