Attractions in Davis, California
- Davis is the home of the U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame, which moved there in April 2010 from it's previous home in Bridgewater Township, New Jersey. The hall is open Wednesdays, Saturdays and other times by appointment.
The city has an extensive network of bike lanes and paths. Davis has won awards for its biking infrastructure and culture from Bicycling Magazine and the League of American Bicyclists. - Picnic Day, an annual open house held every third Saturday in April at the University of California, Davis, is one of the largest student-run events in the United States. Attractions during the day include a battle of marching bands, chemistry magic show, fashion show and live music.
The Whole Earth Festival also is planned primarily by UC Davis students. It takes place on Mother's Day weekend and features speakers, workshops, live music, arts and crafts. - The Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts on the UC Davis campus is a performing arts venue that houses the UC Davis Symphony Orchestra. It has been the site of performances by regional, national and international artists including blues musician Buddy Guy, jazz performers Branford Marsalis and Terrence Blanchard, violinist Itzhak Perlman and cellist Yo-Yo Ma.
The Davis Art Center's noncommercial exhibit space is the scene of 10 contemporary art shows each year. - The Explorit Science Center offers science programs for children, teens and adults, including a lecture series, astronomy club, teacher workshops and summer science camps.
The Bohart Museum of Entomology on the UC Davis campus is dedicated to the world of insects. It holds approximately seven million specimens and is growing by about 50,000 specimens annually.
