How to Decorate in a Halloween Theme
- 1). Cut fabric scraps of orange or black or novelty Halloween fabric large enough to wrap around each of your throw pillows. Wrap the pillows like a present, and secure in the back with safety pins.
- 2). Apply double-sided sticky tape to one side of orange construction paper sheets. Stick the paper to the inside back of your bookcases. Paper the entire back surface of the cases.
- 3). Wrap the books in your bookcase with newspaper covers. Open each book. Measure across the width of the book cover from the front edge to the back edge and add 4 inches. Measure the height of each book. Cut a newspaper cover using these measurements. Wrap the cover around the book, tucking 2 inches inside each end to hold the cover in place.
- 4). Spray paint a variety of ceramic figurines and knick-knacks black. Use figurines purchased from thrift stores and yard sales. Remove your everyday decor items and replace them with the painted ones. Accent the painted figurines by placing a milk glass collection among them. White dishes or milk glass look-a-likes can also be used.
- 5). Drape Halloween garland or banners from fireplace mantels, cupboards or tall hutches. Place pumpkins on the floor, tables, counters and fireplace hearths. Tie black ribbon around the stems.
- 6). Set your existing orange, black and white Halloween decorations around your home to add the finishing touches and complete the look.
- 1). Cover your dining table with an orange, black or white tablecloth, sheet, bedspread or fabric from your stash. The cover does not need to be solid. Print designs add to the whimsical theme.
- 2). Cut a sheet of newspaper one-third as wide as your dining table and three-quarters as long. Tape sheets of newspaper together if needed. Center the newspaper on the table as a table runner. Trace 12-inch circle place mats on newspaper using a compass. Trace and cut out one place mat for each place setting.
- 3). Set the table using orange, black, white or clear glass dishes and plates. Rip 12-inch squares of novelty Halloween fabric for napkins. Paper party products can be substituted for the plates and napkins.
- 4). Spray paint taper candle holders orange or black. Place white taper candles in the holders, and place them in the center of the table. Surround the candle holders with miniature pumpkins. Sprinkle candy corn and spider rings over the surface of the table.
