How to Cut Slate Around Wall Outlets
- 1). Loosen the screw on the outlet cover and remove the cover if it hasn't already been removed.
- 2). Measure the width and height of the outlet box opening and the distances from the next tile. Transfer these measurements to a piece of paper and cut out the paper into the intended shape of the slate tile. Place the paper template in the position where the tile will go to insure that your measurements are correct.
- 3). Place the template onto the tile and mark the outline of the template in pencil onto the slate.
- 4). Drill a hole at each corner with a diamond-coated drill bit.
- 5). Cut the remaining area of the cut-out with the jig saw, inserting the saw into the holes to use as a starting point.
