Craft glue ranges in functionality and allows crafters to glue anything items including delicate photographs, metal crafts, paper products and wooden joints. Select the proper type of glue when working on a craft project to protect the quality of the materials used. Glue applied with heat or certain chemicals may harm the materials; another special type of glue may be necessary. - Users must apply hot glue to projects using hot glue guns that heat the glue sticks to the point of melting and allow the users to apply the glue in small amounts to the desired area by squeezing a trigger. Hot glue is especially useful when gluing projects that are not sensitive to heat. This type of glue is often used in the floral industry.
- White glue is one of the most widely used glue types and is often used for light paper projects. White glue is also useful to hobbyists in a diluted form for spraying on surfaces to glue items across a large area. White glue is typically nontoxic and safe for children's crafts. Because it is water-based, protect it from moisture.
- Tacky glue is similar to white glue and is useful for most of the same purposes but adheres to the surface as soon as it is applied. Regular white glue is more fluid and tends to run if placed on a vertical surface, while tacky glue is thicker and stays in place.
- Super glue is used for bonding two non-porous objects together quickly and efficiently. Super glue dries quickly and creates a strong bond between objects. It is extremely dangerous to the skin as it bonds to it instantaneously. The use of gloves is recommended when using it for extended periods. Most types of super glues work well with metal, plastic and glass. Super glue is popular among modelers and hobbyists who need glue that will hold small objects in place without having to clamp them to dry. Super glue is destructive to materials such as foam and cloth.
- Foam glue is useful in crafts that require foam to be adhered together or other objects. Foam glue is specially designed to penetrate the foam and provide a strong bond between the materials without degrading the chemical composition of the foam.
