Bistro CloClo - French Restaurant in Orlando

106 14

Located in Orlando’s Dr. Phillips neighborhood, Bistro CloClo is a new "bistronomique" restaurant featuring classic French cuisine with a modern twist. The restaurant is named for the French pop star, Claude François (nicknamed CloClo), and is a perfect spot for an intimate meal with a loved one.

Bistro CloClo occupies the space previously taken by Press 101. Although it's located in an unimpressive strip mall, the food and ambiance are anything but boring.

The Atmosphere:

As soon as you approach Bistro CloClo, you notice the tables and chairs spilling out onto the sidewalk of the Dr. Phillips Marketplace. The patio space is illuminated with strings of lights that create a romantic atmosphere, and the outdoor canopy can be screened to offer protection against rain and bugs, which is a good idea in Central Florida.

Inside the French bistro, the walls are a dark red that bring sophistication and a bit of drama to the restaurant. One wall displays art by a local French artist, and all the art is available for purchase. The tables are tastefully covered with white cloths and red napkins.

Jazz singer ZaZa makes regular appearances at Bistro CloClo, adding to the French vibe. The restaurant's sophisticated and intimate feel make it a perfect choice for a first date.

The Food:

As expected, Bistro CloClo's menu features classic French dishes, but you'll also find a few options with an updated, American twist. Some of the most popular dishes include the scallops á la CloClo and the steak au poivre, according to Paul Ardaji, the managing partner of the restaurant.

Lunch options are lighter and include croque sandwiches, crepes and quiche.

The food is well cooked and perfectly presented, although some dishes tend towards bland. The menu offers something for everyone, including vegetarians and pescatarians. There's not much available to appeal to younger diners, though, and the menu prices may be a deterrent to families with young children.

Dessert options are impressive and include creme brulee, mousse au chocolat and a delicious french doughnut. Several ice cream and sorbet flavors are available.

The Drinks:

If you're a fan of wine, Bistro CloClo will be a delight. The restaurant offers a good selection, as well as a few wines not available locally. Champagne cocktails are a creative touch to the menu. The Hibiscus, a fruity cocktail with a beautiful hibiscus flower at the bottom, is a favorite.

The Chef:

Julien Bouchet is the consulting Chef at Bistro CloClo. He grew up in Bretagne in the north-west of France, and was schooled at the Auberge du Pont D’Acigné in Rennes. He attended the Lycée Hotelier de Dinard and received a diploma from the Centre de Formation des Apprentis in Vannes, France.
