How to Change a Phone Supplier
- 1). Contact the phone service provider to which you would like to switch your phone services. You can visit one of their locations, call their customer service number, or access their website. Provide the agent with your area code for the landline service to see what is available in your area. Have your recent phone bill ready and in hand to setup the switching process through the representative. The information on your phone bill such as your customer account number, 10-digit phone number, and zip code may be required to switch phone service providers; if you desire to retain the same phone number with your new phone supplier, this information will be especially helpful.
- 2). Compare the prices and the various phone packages offered by each phone service provider in order to make a quality decision about which new phone provider to choose. You can view the phone packages online or, if inquiring over the phone, ask the customer service representative to explain the phone packages that are available.
- 3). Choose the phone package that best suits your needs. An example of what a typical phone package might include are local and long distance phone services, voice mail service, caller identification and call waiting. You can learn about the various phone service features either via the provider's website or from the customer service representative. There are a variety of other services and features that are available; depending on the phone provider and what you would like your phone package to include, additional charges may apply.
- 4). Choose the landline provider's package that works for you and pay for your package either by phone or online. Some phone service providers bill at a later date.
- 5). Cancel your old service. Some phone providers allow you to cancel your phone service online. If your phone supplier does not offer this service, you will have to talk to a representative over the phone to officially cancel your service. You may, also, need to pay a final bill to confirm and complete the cancellation of your service.
