Rosacea is a skin condition that makes facial skin red, giving the appearance of acne or eczema.
Since it looks similar to sunburn or acne, it is often left untreated in its initial stage.
Symptoms associated with Rosacea include red bumps on the skin, redness in the chine, nose and foreheads, and swollen skin.
In its advanced stage, it can also result in a large, pitted, bulbous nose called Rhinophyma.
This skin problem is known to onset at the age of 30 and in addition to appearing on the face, it can also appear on the ears, scalps, neck and chest section of the body.
It has been observed that it tends to affect people with fair skin more than those with dark skin.
Furthermore, it can affect both men and women.
Antibiotics are the first line of treatment that is provided for this problem.
The result of taking antibiotics can occur in a couple of week's time.
Side effects of taking antibiotics include diarrhea, allergic reaction, tooth discoloration and sensitivity during sun exposure.
One of the antibiotics that are prescribed is Metonidazole, which tastes very bitter.
It can cause headaches and continuous administration of this medication can lead to peripheral neuropathy.
There can also be loss of appetite and nausea.
Yet another antibiotic that is prescribed is Clonidine.
The side effects caused by this antibiotic include low blood pressure and drowsiness.
Topical creams or gel do not causes disturbing side effect, however, there is the possibility of allergies.
Most often, what is seen to occur is that the person suffering from Rosacea thinks he or she is having acne and hence treatment is prolonged.
If Rosacea is detected in the early stag itself the kind of medication prescribed is light and effective steps to control the problem can be taken earlier.
