How to Store Water in Plastic Containers
- 1). Wash food-grade plastic containers and their lids in soapy water.
- 2). Rinse the lids and plastic containers with hot water. Fill the containers several times with water and empty to remove all traces of soap.
- 3). Fill the sink with warm water and add one teaspoon of unscented chlorine bleach to the water. Put the plastic bottles in the sink and allow the water to pour into the containers. Swish the bleach water inside the containers to cover the entire surface and kill any bacteria. Rinse the containers with hot water.
- 4). Fill the containers to the top with water. Place the lids on them and tighten snugly. Write with a marker the date on the containers.
- 5). Place the containers in a dark, cool environment like a basement or pantry.
