Thanksgiving is Here - Pass the Shopping Bag
I know why we have Thanksgiving, I appreciate that it is a time to give thanks for how lucky we are.
I won't even talk about how we are really just having what is known in the UK as a harvest festival and calling it something different.
But what gets the most TV time and the most press coverage, the thanks part or the shopping part? As soon as we get Halloween out of the way the countdown to the thanksgiving sales starts.
People start scouring their papers and their mail box for news of who will be selling what and for how much.
They get all excited about the great deal on this item and that item, many of which they don't really need and didn't know was an essential item till the advert told them so.
Seeing as how we are in a recession some people will be cursing the adverts that will be piling into their mailbox as it just reminds them they have no money.
Other people will get their credit cards out and just go nuts buying stuff and worry when the bill comes in.
Then you have the third type of Thanksgiving shopper, they will make a list of all their family members and look through the adverts to see who may like what and work out what can be purchased.
These are the people who will win the shopping wars because they will get real bargains.
A real bargain is something that will be used by the recipient and was bought at a price that is far below any other price they have ever seen.
So which type of shopper are you? The one who will scream and shout at the ads, the one who will buy everything and anything just because it is on sale, or the winner?
