    • 1). Brush your Great Dane all over using a hard bristled brush to remove any dirt or shedding hair. Do this on a daily basis to benefit your dog's skin. The action of grooming will encourage the release of natural oils in the coat that will keep the skin moisturized.

    • 2). Be calm and confident while grooming your Great Dane if it does not enjoy being groomed. Your dog knows whether you are feeling frustrated or anxious and will respond accordingly. Allow your dog to sniff the brush before you begin, and reward it with the occasional treat to make grooming a positive experience.

    • 3). Apply a specialized dry shampoo for dogs to your Great Dane's coat when necessary to remove any stubborn dirt particles. Massage your dog's back as you apply the shampoo to make it a positive and calming experience.

    • 4). Check your Great Dane's ears once a week. This breed is prone to ear infections caused by debris gathering in the ear. Look inside the dog's ear. The skin of the ear canal should be pale pink. Check for a potent smell or redness, as this could signal an ear infection. In that case, you must take your dog to a veterinarian for treatment. Clean your Great Dane's ears by wiping the entrance to the ear canal with a cotton ball dipped in warm water. Avoid going too far into the ear.

    • 5). Brush your Great Dane's teeth once a week with a specialized doggy toothbrush and toothpaste for dogs. Do this once a week to keep your dog's teeth in good condition. Do not use human toothpaste.
