Instructions for Changing the Line on a Toro 7-Inch Electric Trimmer
- 1). Kill the engine by moving the starting button to the "OFF" setting. Unplug the extension cord from the trimmer's cord. Place the engine on a level piece of ground so you can work on the head.
- 2). Locate the tabs on opposite sides of the moving part of the cutting head. Squeeze both tabs in simultaneously while lifting the cap free of the head. Lift the cap off and pull the spool from inside the cutter head, but leave the spring connected to the cutter head.
- 3). Take off the short piece of line left over from the last use. Clean up the spool and cutter head, checking them for cracks and damage. Replace if they're broken or cracked.
- 4). Attach the 10-foot section of replacement line to the spool by sticking 1/8 inch into the slot on the spool. Push the line to the innermost part of the spool. Hold the bump head down and wind the line around the spool in counterclockwise direction. Wind the line in level, tight rows between the spool flanges, making sure the line doesn't go above or below the spool flanges.
- 5). Leave 3 inches of line off the spool. Hold the spool and line to prevent them from unraveling. Place the spool down against the spring inside the cutter head. Align the tabs on the cap with the "Insert" tab on the cutter head. Insert the line through the eyelet on the cutter head. Push the cap until it locks onto the cutter head.
