How to Get Rid of Moths in the Closet

104 27
    • 1). Remove all clothing, shoes and other items from your closet. Get rid of any garments, shoes or other items stored in your closet that you no longer use or wear. Place them in tightly sealed trash bags and properly dispose of them, since they may be infested with moth larvae.

    • 2). Vacuum all the surfaces of your closet, including the floor, walls and ceiling. Scrub the surfaces with hot, soapy water to remove any moth larva. Make sure to thoroughly wash all shelves, drawers, cabinets and hanging rods.

    • 3). Seal off any cracks, crevices or small openings in your closet where moths like to hide and lay their eggs. Use silicone caulk or putty. Check for tiny holes around the baseboard, drawers, cabinets, shelving and ceiling trim.

    • 4). Wash or dry-clean your clothes before returning them to your closet. Place the clothing inside your freezer after washing if it's been heavily infested. Put small items such as handkerchiefs and socks inside a small freezer bag. Remove after two to three days and allow to thaw. Shake the clothing to remove any dead eggs or larva before returning them to the closet.
