    The Slipstreaming Process

    • 1). Find out whether the system is using the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows Vista. Click on the "Start" button and right-click on "Computer." Select "Properties." The bit version is under the "System type" section.

    • 2). Place the original Vista installation DVD in the DVD drive. (If autoplay or an install window pops up, just close it.) Click on the "Start" button and select "Computer." Right-click the DVD drive and select "Copy"; on the desktop right-click in an open area and select "Paste." This will copy all files from the DVD to a folder on the desktop.

    • 3). Download and save the SP1 Standalone Installer to the desktop. Download and save the vLite 1.2 Final version to the desktop.

    • 4). Right-click on the vLite program and select "Run as Administrator." When prompted, click "Allow." Sometimes a message will pop up asking to install "WAIK"; if this happens, click the "Install" button. This will download a 1.34-gigabyte ISO file. Burn the ISO file to a DVD. This can be done with Imageburn.

    • 5). Download and install Imageburn. Double-click the Imageburn shortcut on the desktop to open. Select "Write image file to disk." Under "Source," click on the folder icon. When the "Open" window pops up, navigate to the WAIK.iso file and click the "Open" button. Select the DVD burner drive under "Destination." Click on the "Write" icon to burn. Run the DVD to install WAIK.

    • 6). In the vLite window, click the "Browse" button. Click on the Vista folder that was copied to the desktop. Select the "LRMCFRE_EN_DVD" folder. Depending on the version of Vista copied, the "LRMCFRE_EN_DVD" folder may be under a different name, but it is the folder that contains the boot, efi, sources, support and upgrade folders. Click "OK." Select the Vista edition to be used for slipstreaming and select "OK." Click "Next."

    • 7). Under "Task Selection," check the "Service Pack Slipstream" box and the "Bootable ISO" box. Click "Next."

    • 8). In the "Integrate a Service Pack Into the Installation" window, click on the "Select" button. Navigate to the SP1 Standalone program that was downloaded to the desktop and click the "Open" button. When prompted, click "Run." The progress meter may seem to stop around 60 percent, but it does not. When the "Status" says "Finished," click "Next."

    • 9). In the "General" section under "Mode," select "Create ISO." Click the "Make ISO" button. If the ISO is over 4 GB, a window will prompt to make the image smaller. If this screen pops up, check "Rebuild one" and click "OK." When rebuild is finished, click "Next." Make sure the "Mode" is still set to "Create Image" and Click the "Make ISO" button. Select to save the ISO to the desktop and click "Save." Wait for the ISO process to complete.

      Place a blank DVD into the DVD burner drive. In the vLIte window, under "General" and "Mode," select "Burn Image" and click the "Burn" button. When the DVD is complete, a "Write Successful" message will prompt. Click "Finish" and "Exit."
