How to Check the Pitch of a Screw Thread
- 1). Open the pitch gauge in your dominate hand and select the first gauge in the group. Fold the rest back into the handle.
- 2). Pick up the bolt or screw in your other hand and apply the teeth on the gauge to the threads of the bolt.
- 3). Look to see if the gauge's teeth align perfectly with the threads. If they do not, select another gauge and measure again. Repeat this process until you find the correct gauge.
- 4). Look on the side of the gauge and record the number stamped on its side. This is the pitch of the threads.
