How to Connect Components to an HDTV

    • 1). Decide which connection is going to give you your best quality picture and sound. HDMI is going to give you both your best quality picture and sound all in one cable, if you can use this type of connection it will save you a lot of problems and will look great.

    • 2). Place the device near to your TV. Most cables reach six to 12 feet in length, so you won't be able to run everything across the room. Your Blu-ray devices and cable HD cable boxes would take priority here. Both of these devices will be able to use HDMI cables.

    • 3). Plug the cable into the output of the device. HDMI cables will only plug in facing one way; it doesn't matter which end of the cable you use. The other end of the cable will plug into the HDMI port on the back of your HDTV.

    • 4). Turn on the TV and the device plugged in with the HDMI cable. Select the input for HDMI from the TV's menu (consult your owners manual on how to navigate).

    • 5). Adjust the resolution to the maximum level for your HDTV and plugged in device. Many devices are now capable of displaying resolution in 1080p, or 1080 dots per inch in progressive scan.
