He also had a significant contribution to what is called refinement, taste and class. This is highlighten and proved by all his works that are nothing but inspiring for everybody!
Along his life, Josef Hoffmann intended to direct the design and art into a direction, that was characterized as basical lines, geometrical design and tasteful association of materials, design and form. He exercised these concepts not only in theory, but he also practiced them. One of Hoffmann's great works is related to the Palais Stoclet in Brussels, where together with Klimt and the Wiener Werksttte artists he had the task of designing the whole palace. It is also considered Hoffmann's masterpiece.
The Stoclet Palace, the property of Adolphe Stoclet, it's still occupied; therefore it's not open to visitors. But the photos that illustrates us the interior of the palace gives us a general idea of the style of it. And this first impression is leading us to modernism, due to the simple and elegant lines and concepts of design. But there are also other elements of the house that recalls other styles and current of the history of design. The combination of simple, geometrical elements and richly adorned decorative crafts result a wonderful mansion and this should always be a landmark to the development of design.
The most important and outstanding aspect about the mansion that should be mentioned is the stunning dining room, due to its significance in a family, but also thanks to its interesting decoration. The designers choose black and white rare marble, wood and gold-embossed leather furniture, enriched by silver table decor and silverware designed by Hoffmann. The special touch of this room is due to Klimt creation, the mosaic, that is made of gold, white and multicolor-tiles, all these revealing a spiral motifs of tree and the two famous embracing figures, a wonderful expression.
Hopefully one day this wonderful palace will be opened to the public, to taste the style and elegance.
