    Destinations

    • There are several destination spots to visit in New Jersey, including Princeton, Newark, Atlantic City and Point Pleasant Beach. According to the state's tourism website, Princeton University has an arts museum with classical and Chinese art collections. Newark has the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, the Prudential Center where many athletic events and concerts occur, and the Ironbound District, home of a variety of restaurants. Point Pleasant Beach not only has a beach, but also a comedy club and antique store.

    Government

    • According to the state of New Jersey's website, The Garden State's first constitution was written in 1776 and that helped create its first government. The document was rewritten in 1844 and allowed the people to elect the governor. Previously, the legislature appointed the governor. The 1844 constitution also called for the separation of powers between an executive, legislative and judicial branches. The governor lives in Princeton but works out of the capital city of Trenton.

    The Garden State

    • New Jersey might be located near Philadelphia and New York City but it still produces a lot of fruit and vegetables. The state of New Jersey's website states that New Jersey has 9,800 farms and 790,000 acres of farmland. Garden State farmers produce an abundance of blueberries, spinach, bell peppers, tomatoes, corn, apples, soybeans and peaches. According to the state department of agriculture, farming ranks behind tourism and pharmaceuticals in the economic benefits those industries provide.

    Driving

    • For new state residents to switch to a New Jersey driver's license, they will need to visit a N.J. Motor Vehicle Commission branch and bring the proper documents needed to verify address and identity. Acceptable documentation includes a birth certificate, the previous state's driver's license and a social security card. Road and knowledge tests are waived for residents that present a valid, non-provisional license from any of the 50 states or the District of Columbia. New residents are then issued a four-year New Jersey license and will have to surrender their previous one.

    Famous New Jersey Residents

    • There are a variety of people that were born in New Jersey. This group includes Newark native Alvin Attles who has been a player and coach in the National Basketball Association. Elizabeth native Rick Barry is a member of the NBA Hall of Fame. Hoboken native Michael Chang won numerous professional tennis titles. Actor Jason Alexander, who starred on the television show Seinfeld, is a native of Newark. Actress and singer Whitney Houston is also a native of Newark.
