Educating Your Child Not to Swear

103 12
Babies are so cute and innocent.
We fall in love with them the minute we hold them.
They are hard to resist and easy to cherish.
As they grow they begin to take in their surroundings.
They learn how to walk and talk as they watch those around them.
They repeat the examples they are shown by their parents.
When the teen years come along, parents often hold their breath.
It's at this time in a child's life that everything they've been taught comes to fruition.
One thing that teenagers often adopt is their parents' language skills.
If their parents have an accent, they have an accent, just as if their parents swear, they will often swear.
Many times people will curse from time to time out of irritation.
If we do it frequently it may be seen as a sign of disrespect.
Parents need to be aware that their teenage children are listening to what they are saying and may repeat it.
Teenagers swear for other reasons, as well.
Sometimes they do it to be popular.
They may feel that it will make them appear cool or tough if they swear.
They may just do it to fit in or if they are feeling insecure.
You can see this often and peer pressure will be a major contributor to foul language, for better or for worse.
This is completely natural if your son or daughter is doing this, so don't be discouraged or put off in any way.
The key comes in knowing how to take action and deal with such situations as effectively as possible.
Swearing may be OK among a teenager's friends but in public can be embarrassing for their parents.
If they use it enough, it may become a habit.
It can pop out at the most inopportune moments and ruin their chances of making a good impression.
To keep your kids from swearing, start at an early age.
Instill good values and discipline by striving to let them know as early in life as possible.
Let them know that it's not acceptable and that it makes you look uneducated and ill-mannered.
Point out other people who they surely don't want to be like so that they can see the real life consequences of falling into such bad habits, and the negative impact it could have on the way that people perceive and treat them.
Teach them other words to use in place of swearing.
Set a good example and your kids will follow suit.
