ThrombocytopeniaPeople who have this disease have some serious problems with their body

In the person suffering from thrombocytopenia the body will not produce enough of the growth factors needed to compensate for the platelet loss. This means that it will take longer for the body to produce the platelets. In other words, there is more destruction and less production.

Your immune system becomes a killer

For reasons known and unknown the immune system in thrombocytopenia (the immune type) produces antibodies that destroy platelets in large quantities. For this reason conventional treatment is geared towards suppressing the immune system in hopes of preventing a low platelet count. This works many times but in many cases this fails. Sometimes strong chemotherapeutic agents are used.

Why would the immune system do this? There are many reasons. Vaccination is known to cause thrombocytopenia in children. Other possible factors could be food allergies, gluten intolerance, H. pylori bacteria. In other cases it is totally unknown why the bodies own defenses would attack the platelets.

One thing is for sure, it seems that stress and lack of sleep precipitates low blood platelets to enter into an acute stage. So it seems that different factors in life-style that stresses the body tend to make the immune system to malfunction.

Even though many researchers do not give a hoot about life-style, diet and its connection with thrombocytopenia, many others believe that what you do and eat can be a major aggravating and precipitating factor in thrombocytopenia.

We must remember always that the body is a whole. You cannot separate the immune system from everything else. What you eat and do and do not do will end up affecting the health of your platelets.

Sometimes by just adding antioxidant foods to the diet makes a big difference and prevents your thrombocytopenia from flaring up once more. Yes there are great medicines and natural remedies that can help. But changing your whole life style can make a big difference and help your body respond better to whatever treatment you choose to do.
