How do I Hook Up the Vent Drain on a Goodman Furnace?

    • 1). Remove the two screws holding the top door to the furnace. Remove the plastic bag inside, as this contains the parts for the drain and flue pipe connection. Open the bag and separate all the pieces.

    • 2). Use sheet metal screws to attach the gray plastic drain cup at the holes on the side of the furnace, just below the holes with the black rubber grommets for the drain lines. You'll find holes on either side of the furnace for this purpose, so choose the side of the furnace most convenient for drainage.

    • 3). Put the two black plastic L-shaped drain pipes through the grommet in the side of the furnace, so that the pointed ends are in the cup on the outside of the furnace.

    • 4). Pull the black rubber cap off the side of the collector pan nearest the drain cup. Using the green hose clip on the black plastic drain line and the red hose clip on the collector pan, install the l-shaped rubber hose between the collector pan and the L-shaped drain line.

    • 5). Locate the white rubber boot that connects the inducer fan (a black round motor in the center of the furnace) to the flue pipe inside the furnace. The white boot is "L" shaped with a drain pointing down. Using a utility knife, cut one-half inch off the end of this drain.

    • 6). Insert the 45-degree angled black plastic drain connector into the cut end of the white boot and secure with the gray hose clamp. Remove the long black rubber hose from inside the furnace and cut it to length with a utility knife so that it reaches from the 45-degree connector to the other black L-shaped plastic drain line. Secure each end with a green hose clip.

    • 7). Recheck all the interior connections. Check that all the hose clamps fit snugly.

    • 8). Use PVC glue and cleaner to connect the plastic drain cup on the side of the furnace to a three-quarter inch PVC coupler. Insert a stub of three-quarter inch PVC pipe into the coupler and plumb to the nearest drain or to a condensate pump.
