How to Make a Baby Blanket With Fleece and Flannel

    • 1). Cut 7 inches off of the long side of your fleece yardage, opposite the fold. You will have two 7-inch strips of fabric once you've finished cutting. Your yard of fleece will be 60 inches wide before you cut it, and 46 inches wide after. This will make the fleece match the flannel, which is usually sold at 46 inches wide.

    • 2). Place your flannel on top of your fleece, right sides together. Insert pins about 1/4 inch from the edge all the way around the fabric, approximately 7 to 8 inches apart.

    • 3). Wrap your thread around the bobbin for your sewing machine and thread your sewing machine according to the manufacturer's instructions.

    • 4). Sew from one corner down the blanket, then around the three remaining sides, 1/4 inch from the edge of the fabric for the seam. Leave approximately 6 inches unsewn so you can turn the blanket inside-out.

    • 5). Turn the blanket inside out. Using your pencil, poke at the corners from inside the blanket so that they will be triangular.

    • 6). Fold the unfinished edges of the blanket into the hole where you turned the blanket inside out. Pin closed. Sew the hole closed with a slip stitch.
