How to Disable Private Browsing
- 1). Click the "Start" menu button on the computer. Select "Run" and type "GPEDIT.MSC." Click "OK," and this will open the Group Policy Settings for the computer. Locate "User Configuration" in the new window that opens and click the plus sign next to "Administrative Templates."
- 2). Click the plus sign next to the "Windows Components" option to expand the menu. Click the plus sign next to the "Internet Explorer" option to expand this menu. Double-click on the "InPrivate" folder.
- 3). Look in the frame to the right and locate the option labeled "Setting." Five options are under this menu item. These options include "Turn off InPrivate Browsing," "Disable toolbars and extensions when InPrivate Browsing starts," "Do not collect InPrivate Filtering data," "InPrivate Filtering Threshold," and "Turn off InPrivate Filtering."
- 4). Select your desired policy setting for InPrivate Browsing. To disable private browsing, choose the option labeled "Turn off InPrivate Browsing" to enable the group policy setting and to disable the private browsing feature. Look to the immediate left of and notice the blue hyperlink labeled "Properties." Click on this link, and in the new window it should state "Turn off InPrivate Browsing" at the top of the window. Choose the "Enabled" radio button and select "Apply" at the bottom of the window. Press the "OK" button to close the window settings.
Enabling the group policy setting disables the InPrivate Browsing feature. Disabling the group policy setting allows the use of the InPrivate Browsing feature. Not configuring the policy settings allows the user to activate or deactivate the InPrivate Browsing option while browsing the Internet by clicking the "Tools" menu button at the top of the page and clicking the "InPrivate Browsing" option. - 5). Double-click the Internet Explorer icon on your desktop. Look toward the top of the screen and select the "Tools" menu. Examine all the options under the menu. Notice the option of "Private Browsing" missing. If the option is still there, navigate back to the "GPEDIT.MSC" prompt to change the settings again.
