Halitosis is a medical term used to describe the bad breath originating from mouth mainly due to poor oral hygiene and also depending on the eating habits.
In order to fight against bad breath it is very essential to know the exact cause of halitosis.
The major cause of bad breath is food particles which are stuck between the teeth after any meal.
These food particle acts as breeding ground for various anaerobic and aerobic bacteria.
The metabolism and the end product of the bacteria give rise to an unpleasant odor arising from the mouth.
Other causes for halitosis include certain systemic diseases affecting various other systems of the body.
Local causes include periodontal abscess, chronic smoking or tobacco chewing habits.
Treatment of bad breath is by keeping a good oral hygiene.
It is very important to follow certain simple steps that are given here in order to avoid halitosis.

Though most of the people brush regularly yet they suffer from halitosis.
Hence it is very important to brush the teeth and rinse the mouth with a mouth gargle after every meal in order to remove any food particle and to keep the oral hygiene clean.

It is also important to clean the tongue at least twice daily.
Formation of white scaly like plague can give rise to halitosis.
Hence cleaning the tongue thoroughly every day reduces halitosis.

It is very important to keep mouth wet at all times.
Dry mouth makes the ph drop in the mouth which provides an excellent condition for the bacterial flora to flourish in the oral cavity.
Hence it is important to drink plenty of fluid and keep yourself hydrated always.

Avoiding certain food like sea food, garlic, onions when you have to meet some people will reduce the chances of you having a bad odor arising from your mouth.

One can use many pharmaceutical products in order to prevent halitosis.
One such is hydrogen peroxide, using equal volume of peroxide and water and rinsing the mouth kills most of bacteria responsible for bad breath.
