    • 1). Get a copy of your current criminal history. Contact your local Sheriff's Office or Police Department. You must be able to provide your identification data, such as your name and date of birth, and be prepared to pay a fee of up to $20.

    • 2). Review the record for errors. Though you cannot remove correct information without an expungement or court order, you can remove or correct errors. Carefully review the criminal history information contained in your report for any such mistakes.

    • 3). Get fingerprinted. If you want to fix mistakes in your criminal record, you must first have your fingerprints taken by the Georgia Criminal Information Center, a division of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Contact the GCIC and make an appointment to do this. You must pay a $20 fee by either certified check or money order. If you are unable to appear in person to get your fingerprints, you can have them taken by your local law enforcement agency and then send them by mail to the GCIC (see Resources).

    • 4). Mail your request. Send a written request to the GCIC briefly stating your reasons for the change of information. Include any specific information required, including your name and contact information, along with a complete return mailing address. You will receive a certificate of the results through the mail once your request is processed.
