How to Set a Mad Hatter Table

    • 1). Prepare the table surface. Use brightly colored tablecloths to cover all table surfaces that will be used. Tablecloths can have checkerboard patterns or simply be bright colors.

    • 2). Place mismatched teacups and teapots on each table. If you borrow sets from family or friends, separate the pieces so that you do not have matching sets on the same table. Use a range of cups from dollhouse size to planting pots that can be found at flea markets and antique stores.

    • 3). Scatter playing cards on the tables. You can also string up a few playing cards to hang from light fixtures or the ceiling.

    • 4). Use old clocks and keys to accent the tables. Fill teacups that will not be used with silk flowers or scatter wildflowers and ivy across the tables as fillers. Ensure all clocks are stopped at the desired party time or "tea time."

    • 5). Set up the chairs. Have mismatched chairs at each table and the largest chair at the head of the table for the "guest."

    • 6). Place hats around the table or on chairs. For extra hats or hats too small to be worn, place them in teacups or hang them from the light fixtures.

    • 7). Fill apothecary jars and bottles with brightly colored water (you can use food coloring) and use them as backdrops for your tea party. Hang hand-painted labels on two or three of the jars that say "Drink Me" to represent the magic potions Alice drinks in the movie.
