Copyright (c) 2010 Raymond HinishDid you know that the best medicines for osteoporosis, can not offer a cure? Medicine wants you to believe that curing something like osteoporosis is complicated. It is always in the best interest of the drug companies that you not understand how your condition develops and how to go about reversing it without their drug.In my radio program I commonly say, "The number one killer of Americans is not heart disease or cancer or osteoporosis; the number one killer of Americans is misinformation." So what misinformation am I referring to?Myth #1 Osteoporosis is a certainty.Truth: In fact, according to the Surgeon General, only 17% of women will ever suffer a hip fracture (the most devastating fractures associated to osteoporosis). Another 15% will develop vertebral fractures and yet another 16% will develop a fracture of the forearm.Myth #2 Osteoporosis always occurs as we age; you can not prevent it, much less reverse it.Truth: Osteoporosis is mostly an artifact of lifestyle, not age. It is true that bone density does decrease a bit with age, however, this does not have to result in an increase in fracture risk. Which brings us to the next example of misinformation...Myth #3 Bone density is what determines fracture risk.Truth: I spend a good deal of time teaching you why your bone density can not determine fracture risk. From an engineering perspective, it is estimated that the bones can lose 50% of its density without losing structural integrity. Bone quality is far more important than bone density. So how do you cure osteoporosis using natural treatments?1. You dedicate yourself to curing the cause of your osteoporosis by entering into a contract with yourself to do everything that is necessary to promote healthy bone.2. Immediately start taking the high quality supplements which includes: a "bone mineral formula", containing calcium, magnesium, boron, zinc, copper, and other trace minerals; vitamin D3, sufficient dose to reach a blood level of 50-60; and vitamin K2, up to 15 mg three times daily.3. You start eating the right foods which promote healthy bones. There is a simple rule that I can provide; eat three times as much fruits and vegetables by weight as you eat animal protein.4. Start a well balanced exercise program that incorporates aerobic activity, resistance activity, and stretching. Of these three, weight training is the most important.5. Avoid medications, such as antacids, steroids and antidepressants. These medications have been linked to bone loss.6. Learn to manage stress. Chronic elevation of cortisol could cause the bones to degrade at a rapid rate.
