Tennis - Focus on the End Result
Tennis players have to make sure they focus on the end results and not on all the problems, frustrations and concerns they might be focusing on.
But to focus on the end result you must learn and execute the directions that I'm going to tell you about in this article.
In seminars I will at times ask athletes to tell me what their goals are for competition.
The group will tell things like: doing my best...
hope I do good...
I want to perform well...
I hope I don't lose...
I want to be in the best shape of my life...
Although some of the above statements are good, they are not specific enough in order to have the full conviction that you really want to accomplish what your goal is.
Here are the following steps every athlete should take in goal setting in order for them to be able to focus on the end result: 1.
Know exactly what you want.
Do you want to win the tournament.
Do you want to place within the top 3 etc...
You have to be specific on exactly what you want.
2.
Write your goal or goals down on a piece of paper.
3.
Once you have the goal decided on then by focusing on that goal, work all the steps that have to be done backwards to present day.
Basically you look at all the steps in your training from the moment of you winning that competition to present day.
4.
Once you have all the steps laid out then decide on the amount of time, energy and practice that you'll have to do in order to achieve this goal.
5.
Make a daily journal that will have you goal or goals written with all the steps that you'll have to do to achieve each one.
6.
Every day or training you must check off the appropriate step that has been laid out in your goal setting plan.
7.
Also have possible adjustments to your steps because even the best laid out plans won't necessarily work out the way you want.
But you must not get discouraged if your plan doesn't always work out to perfection.
8.
Adjust if you have to but keep going while having your mental focus on the end result which is to win the competition.
9.
Let's say you had a 3 month strategy plan for achieving your goal then for every step of the way that you accomplish then check off that step and this will motivate you to keep going.
Also there will be a sense of accomplishment that you will feel in actually checking off the individual steps.
10.
Even though you might experience some set backs and possible delays, when you focus on the end result of achieving your goal, it will allow you to keep going forward and to focus in the end result of your goal.
Note: Remember if you don't have a plan then be prepared to plan to fail.
This is the exact plan I did when I was competing in National and International Karate competitions and it worked great.
So you can use it and get the same results that I did.
