Communication has been made easier and broader with the rise of technology and the constant innovations that comes along with it.
With the addition of the internet, communication has become even more practical, faster and easier.
This has aided in the growth and expansion of several business operations and even the way ordinary people do their daily activities.
And at the same time it has given people an opportunity to communicate with ease and speed.
This has made information dissemination and transfer a lot faster and easier for the whole world.
One such means of communication that has been introduced by the internet is online chatting.
It is a fact that our maturing population is spending a majority of its time online and signing in numerous chat rooms and messengers available in cyberspace.
Social networking site and regular websites offering forums and chat rooms has also assisted in the growth of the online chatting population.
Online chatting has also introduced tons of innovations, applications and even new perspective in communicating with other people.
Two of which are voice and video chatting where one has to make use of a headset and a web cam in order to hear, be heard, view and be viewed.
Other applications such as games, file sharing, avatars, remote access and the like are also available through online chatting or online messengers.
Another advancement that has been developed by online chatting is the way people use words or sentences in communicating with other people.
This is not only present in online chatting but also in sending text messages or SMS through the mobile phones.
The use of acronyms, shortened word spellings and even shortened form of sentences in order to deliver a message than sending a message with all the characters and words complete in the message is now very common and is being patronized by almost all online chatters or SMS senders, hence, the use of "Chatting Acronyms".
Examples of such acronyms are: ASL (Age, Sex, Location), BRB (Be right back), GTG (Got to go), LOL (laugh out load), TTYL (Talk to you later), and the list just goes on and on.
And shortened formed of words such as: you (u), who (hu), see (c), great (gr8), etc.
This has made it more convenient for chatters for it permits them to deliver a message without the trouble of typing in or keying in complete words, thus, time spent on typing is not wasted and the message is delivered much more quickly than the normal pace.
This has also allowed chatters to deliver more than one idea in such a short message.
This has been one outstanding proof of how creative the human brain is and how technology and the internet complement it.
But what effect does this have in the development of the human brain itself.
Since most messages are delivered in shortcuts and it has become a habit, how has this affected the human brain in terms of gaining and losing knowledge? The market by which chatting is growing each and every single day and the population it captures is getting younger and younger.
These individuals get exposed to a trend that might affect their intellectual part of life, particularly using a language.
Spelling and grammar itself could be an issue.
Yes, online chatting is great improvement in many ways, but it could also be one of the downfalls of the human brain: being too familiar with acronyms and shortened words and eventually being stupid when it comes to correct spelling and grammar.
