Tricks to Extend the Life of Your Rechargeable Batteries

Rechargeable batteries are a very common item these days.
The odds are you have more than one type of rechargeable battery in your possession.
It could be your cell phone, laptop computer, golf cart or any number of things.
Unfortunately these batteries will not last forever but there are techniques you can employ to extend their life span.
By learning how to recondition rechargeable batteries you will save yourself, family and friends some money, batteries are not cheap.
Also by keeping them in use for a longer period of time you are helping save the environment by keeping them out of the landfills.
One important step you can take is to make sure you let the batteries fully discharge before recharging them again.
At least try to do this once a month if not more.
This will help prevent what is called memory effect in your battery.
Memory effect is when the battery remembers a discharge point and thinks it needs to be recharged every time it gets there.
This happens even if the battery is not fully discharged.
If you let the battery fully discharge before you recharge, you can avoid having this memory effect and will be able to fully charge the battery.
The NiMh type battery is less susceptible to memory effect and this battery has the ability to keep devices like cameras going for a longer time.
If you keep your device in a hot car, you could expect the life of your batteries to be shortened.
Keep your cell phone, laptop and power tools in at least room temperature for the best results.
The heat build-up in a vehicle can be extreme during the summer and very warm in the winter, avoid putting your batteries through this.
To conserve the battery power in your laptop you can set it for sleep mode so it hibernates when not in use.
Turn down the volume and any background applications that are not used to conserve power.
Taking DVD's out will prevent the drive from spinning and using up more power.
Following any of these tips will let your laptop battery run longer before needing recharging.
