Kitchen Design - 5 Mistakes You Should Never Make

103 9
We all know that kitchen design is a complex procedure that needs a lot of careful planning.
Unfortunately, there are a handful of mistakes that people seem to make over and over again.
  Planning too much.
Creating a new kitchen design is always an exciting venture.
You have all these ideas flying around your head about the amazing appliances and gadgets you want to include.
All too often though, people get carried away with the luxuries and forget about the basics.
Make sure you think about your primary appliances and their position within your kitchen.
Getting your cooker, fridge, sink etc in functionally the best place will form the basis upon which to build up your design.
  Planning too little.
A lot of people opt for a minimalist kitchen with very little on show.
A lot of the time though, this makes the design seem very cold and uninviting.
Make sure you use warm colours that will light up the space and create a much more pleasant atmosphere.
Not enough storage or too much storage.
Don't just plan for cupboards and draws without thinking about the space you need.
Take stock of everything you have in your kitchen and start to imagine where you'd store different things.
This will ensure you get the right level of storage in your kitchen design and don't end up with pots and pans strewn about everywhere.
Equally, you don't want empty cupboards cluttering up your kitchen, which is an all too common occurrence.
  Ignoring the light.
There are two factors that will really make or break your kitchen design - use of space and lighting.
Whilst many people recognise the importance of making the most of their space, they'll often ignore the issue of lighting.
Ask any interior designer and they'll tell you that getting a good level of natural and artificial light into a room is imperative for creating a successful design.
Take your foot off the pedal.
When the time comes to hand your kitchen design over to fitters or designers don't just let them get on with it for the remainder of the process.
Stay actively involved and ensure they carry out the work to your exacting standards.
Don't be unreasonable and question every single thing they're doing but take an interest and speak up about any concerns you're having.
Its your money and your kitchen after all.
