How to Install European-Style Cabinet Hinges
- 1). Place the door face down on a soft surface.
- 2). Place the hinge boring template onto the back side of the door. The door must be drilled for two hinges. Large or heavy doors may require more. The template is aligned with the top and side of the door. Mark the center of the holes through the template, using a pencil. Repeat on the opposite end of the door. You should have three marks for each hinge. The center mark is the large, 35mm hole. The two side holes are 8mm.
- 3). Drill the 35mm hole 1/2 inch down into the door, using a Forstner bit and a power drill. Drill slowly to prevent damage to the door.
- 4). Drill the two 8mm holes, using a drill bit and a power drill. These holes must also be drilled 1/2 inch deep.
- 5). Repeat these steps to drill for the second hinge on the door.
- 6). Place the hinge into the holes drilled in the door. Fasten the screws on the hinge, using a power drill.
- 7). Hold the door into position on the cabinet. The hinge plate will be screwed inside the cabinet on the cabinet side. Align the door and fasten the hinge plate, using 5/8-inch screws and a power drill. Fasten the other hinge plate to the cabinet.
- 8). Repeat these steps until all the hinges are completely installed.
