103 80
Separation anxiety in your dog is and could be a very serious condition.
If you consider your dog as part of your family and many of us do, you should do all you can to prevent separation anxiety.
The first step involved in prevention of separation anxiety is to always portray a happy tone in your voice when you are leaving the house for any time frame whatsoever.
To sound sad and apologetic to your dog for leaving, only allows your dog to sense the inevitable feeling of loneliness.
The same applies to the return to your home after some time away.
You should of course be happy to see and talk to your dog, however, do not apologize for being away and leaving your dog alone.
One sign of separation anxiety is what your dog does when he or she is left alone.
There usually is excessive signs of chewing on something that the dog knows belong to you.
This could be your favorite pair of pants, shoes or a shirt or coat.
The sense of smell is such that the dog will chew on something that is a direct link to you as the owner.
Your dog will probably be involved in excessive barking.
For this reason, you should of course always ensure that there is plenty of water in the water bowl for your dog.
Separation anxiety is nothing to take lightly and you should be in control of the environment so that your dog can be left alone without creating a disaster in the house and be comfortable with not having someone home every moment of the day.
