How to Dry Flowers as Art

104 11
    • 1). Choose fresh flowers free of insects and blemishes. Gently tug on the petals to make sure they're still firmly attached. If they come away easily, the bloom is past its prime and will lose petals as it dries. Pick blooms free of moisture drops to avoid mold growth.

    • 2). Gather like flowers together, bundling no more than three or four flowers together. Trim the stems so they're no more than 10 inches long and no less than 6 inches. Use a pair of very sharp scissors to avoid shredding the stems.

    • 3). Wrap a piece of twin around the stems about 3 inches from the ends. Tie the twine snugly but not so tightly that it cuts into the stems. Repeat with each bundle of flowers.

    • 4). Hang the flowers by the excess twine from a wall-mounted coat or key rack. This way the flowers act as art while they dry as well as after. Make sure the rack is in a dry, dim area. Direct sunlight will fade your blooms.

    • 5). Allow the flowers to dry for 2 to 3 weeks. The stems should no longer give when pinched and the petals should be crackly and rough liked dried leaves.
