Hemorrhoids: A Literal Pain in the Butt

Definition: Hemorrhoids, or haemorrhoids (bloody pile), are varicose veins that form inside the anus or in the lowest part of the colon. When the veins become inflamed and swollen with blood, and in some case, may bleed.
Some patients experience no symptoms, others have discomfort and irritation.
Hemorrhoids are more common in pregnant women, older adults and patients who struggle with constipation.
