Subwoofer Fiberglass Enclosure Tutorial
- 1). Measure the area of the vehicle where your subwoofer will be located. Make note of these measurements, then use a pencil and paper to draw out your design, ensuring that it will fit into the space. When designing your enclosure, look at the subwoofer's specifications. Subwoofers sound best in a box of the correct volume. Design your enclosure to get as close to this volume as possible.
- 2). Use polyurethane foam to create the shape you want your enclosure to have. After the foam has hardened, file it into the exact shape you want your box to be. Sand off any rough edges.
- 3). Apply the fiberglass. Mix resin and a hardening agent together to create an epoxy, following the manufacturer's instructions, and lay your fiberglass onto your foam enclosure. Then use a paint brush to apply the epoxy to the fiberglass. Repeat this process with a second layer of fiberglass over the first.
- 4). Give your fiberglass at least an hour to cure.
- 5). Dig all of the foam from your fiberglass enclosure. Try not to scratch the fiberglass.
- 6). Sand your fiberglass enclosure until you have a smooth finish.
- 7). Paint your fiberglass enclosure if desired. Apply one coat of paint, let it dry, then apply another coat. You can use a paint brush or spray paint for a more even finish.
