How to Repair a Washing Machine Belt
- 1). Unplug the power cord of the washing machine from the electrical outlet before attempting to repair the washer belt. Turn the water supply off at the shut-off valves behind the washing machine by hand.
- 2). Pull the washing machine out carefully away from the wall about 3 feet, leaning the washer against the wall. Put a wood block under the front of the washer to hold it in place.
- 3). Unfasten the bolts that hold the motor to the motor carriage with a socket wrench. Detach the motor from the carriage, unplugging the electrical wiring harness from the motor by hand.
- 4). Take the belt off the motor and transmission pulleys, removing the belt from the washer cabinet. Install a new belt around the motor and transmission pulleys, plugging the electrical wiring harness into the motor by hand.
- 5). Attach the motor to the motor carriage, securing it with bolts. Remove the wood block from underneath the front of the washer.
- 6). Place the washer back down on the ground, moving it against the wall. Turn the water supply back on at the water shut-off valves.
- 7). Plug the electrical cord of the washing machine into the electrical outlet.
