How to Start Dreadlock Extensions in a Child
- 1). Shampoo, condition and dry the hair. Comb hair to remove and prevent tangles.
- 2). Divide the hair into four equal sections. Make a vertical part down the middle, from front to back, and a horizontal part from side to side. Put both front sections in separate rubber bands to keep hair equally divided and out of the way when focusing on the back.
- 3). Put a rubber band on one of the sections in the back. Leave the section you wish to start with loose. It doesn't matter which back portion you begin with.
- 4). Part a small section of hair from the loose section. Start with the nape and make box part. The size of the part should reflect the size that you want each dreadlock to be.
- 5). Position the synthetic hair so that it is placed over the natural hair, at the root. This should form three different strands, the middle strand should be the natural hair and there should be two strands of extension hair, one on the left and one on the right. The length of the extension hair should be equal on both sides. With the three strands, braid the extension hair into the natural hair as you would an ordinary single braid.
- 6). Braid only about a half-inch down to combine the natural hair and extension piece together, to form one blended strand. Apply a drop of hair glue to the root of the hair, where the braid begins. Separate a new piece of extension hair and position it the same way you did in step 5. Securely twist the two strands around the original blended strand started in step 5. This will form the dreadlock.
- 7). Continue to securely wrap and twist the hair until the dreadlock is created and takes on the desired length. Add rubber bands to seal.
- 8). Repeat these steps until dreadlock extensions are applied to the entire head.
