Keep Your AdWords Account Running, Even If You Are Ranked 1st on the Organic Search Results

If your website is ranked number one for a given keyword then that is good for you because you would be getting free clicks.
But if you are thinking of giving up your cost per click campaign because of this, then I would tell you to rethink.
I would never stop my AdWords account because I have ranked high for a given keyword in the natural search results.
I have many reasons for this.
1- My website may rank 1st for an unprofitable keyword.
This basically means that I may not be in business at an optimum level.
We all know how people are.
If you have ever run an AdWords account then you would understand exactly what I am talking about.
In every AdWords campaign, I discover keywords which are nothing but dormant.
Search users who type such keywords would never buy from you, though they seem to be relevant keywords for your business, they are not paying keywords.
Imagine your website is highly ranked for one of such keywords.
You would get many visitors to your site, but you will find it difficult to make them take out their credit cards and buy from you.
2- Another reason I would keep running my AdWords account even though I my website is ranked high in natural search result is the competitor factor.
Competition is immense in virtually every industry and niche you can think of.
You do not need to give your competitor the chance to wrestle with you.
How would it feel to monopolize a whole result page (organic and sponsored links) in Google for a popular keyword? Yes this is possible.
By appearing on the organic search results section, as well as the on sponsored links section of the result page.
If you appear on the organic search and close your AdWords account, your competitor would take your place on the sponsored links section and start taking some customers away from you.
I can imagine that you do not want that.
We leave in a society where the winner takes all.
The rich would be richer if they keep on working hard, while the poor would only became rich if they do a little bit more than what their top competitor is doing.
