How to Make a Glass Measuring Cup With a Flow Chart

    • 1). Line a level counter top with parchment paper. Because engraving on glass will produce loose grains, protect your work surface prior to making your measuring cup. Paper works best, as it will keep the surface level.

    • 2). Wash and dry the beaker. Using warm water, wash the beaker and then dry it thoroughly with a towel. You may want to let the beaker sit out for up to 30 minutes to ensure that there is no dampness on the surface.

    • 3). Fill the 1/4-cup measuring cup with water and pour it into the glass beaker. Place the beaker on your level surface and allow the water to settle.

    • 4). Trace a short line (one inch or less) along the water line with a non-permanent marker. To the right of the line, carefully mark "1/4" or "1/4 cup." On the left side, mark "2 oz."

    • 5). Add another 1/4 cup of water. Trace a line here to match your prior marking. Mark "1/2" or "1/2 cup" on the right side and "4 oz" on the left.

    • 6). Repeat this process until you have 2 cups of liquid. For each 1/4 cup added to the right side, you will add 2 oz to the left side (for example, 2 oz, 4 oz, 6 oz, 8 oz).

    • 7). Pour the water out of the beaker. Be careful not to wet your markings, as they will smudge and/or erase.

    • 8). Use your hand-held electric engraver to trace your marker lines and measurements.

    • 9). Wash the beaker to eliminate glass dust and non-permanent ink.
