How to Stomp a Ceiling

    • 1). Spread plastic drop cloths over the entire floor in the room to protect it from joint compound drips.

    • 2). Insert a mixing bit into the chuck at the end of an electric drill. Add 1 cup of water at a time, and mix it into the joint compound. The joint compound spreads best when it is the consistency of thick wallpaper paste.

    • 3). Submerge the paint roller completely into the bucket of joint compound, and tap the applicator on the side of the bucket to knock off the excess.

    • 4). Roll the joint compound onto the ceiling, starting in a corner and working your way across the room and over to the other side. Dip the roller frequently into the joint compound to ensure that it is kept full all the time. Roll the joint compound onto the ceiling as evenly as you can.

    • 5). Grasp the end of the pole on the stomping brush, and start in one corner and work your way over the entire surface of the ceiling. Keep the brush at a 90-degree angle to the ceiling, and stand directly below it at all times. Push the brush into the joint compound, using a moderate amount of pressure, and twist it slightly. Remove the brush, pulling it straight down. Continue this procedure until the entire ceiling has been stomped. Allow the joint compound to dry for 24 hours before you paint the ceiling.
