How to Unzip a File in XP and Vista

104 10
    • 1). Download the zip file to your computer and open the folder where the zip file is located. A window containing the compressed files will open. If you are using Windows XP, there will be text on the left which reads "Extract all files". If you are using Windows Vista, this same text will be located on a blue bar above the compressed files.

    • 2). Click "Extract all files". An extraction wizard will open. If you are using XP, click Next. Select the file destination by clicking Browse, and then select Next once again. If you are using Vista, you will simply need to just select the file destination and then click Extract. Vista/XP will then unzip the file. It might help to create a new folder into which you can extract the contents of the zip folder.

    • 3). Open the folder where the contents have been extracted. If you are using Vista, you can check or uncheck whether or not you want the extracted files to be automatically displayed when complete (do this before you click Extract). If you are using XP, after unzipping the files, you can check or uncheck whether or not you want the extracted files to be displayed, after clicking Finish.
