How to Decorate a Kids' Wall
- 1). Select a theme. Decorating along a theme guides you in selecting your materials and creating your design. Choose a theme that your child loves, such as princesses or trains, or choose a theme that is more generic and timeless, such as alphabet blocks or jungle animals.
- 2). Choose a medium. There are many different ways to decorate a child's wall, and they vary in level of difficulty. Anyone can hang posters or peel-and-stick decals (stickers). The slightly more crafty might choose to paint a design using stencils, while the truly artistic might paint an original mural. The latter two choices require more time and effort, but they also give you more freedom with color choices.
- 3). Shop for supplies. Many crafts stores carry much of what you need, including wall decals, stencils, paint, brushes and more. Major web sites carry a greater variety of posters and peel-and-stick decals than you'll find in your local stores. Gather all of your supplies before you begin decorating to ensure that they all coordinate. This is especially necessary if you purchase some materials online as they may appear differently in hand than they did on your computer screen.
- 4). Implement your design. With all of your materials in hand, sketch a rough design of what you want the finished wall to look like. Make sure to leave room for doors, windows, closets, and furniture. Enjoy spending a few hours in your child's room decorating according to plan.
- 5). Add personal touches. The benefit of decorating yourself is that you can personalize the decor. Find room in your design to add your child's name or initials and any other fun or interesting facts, such as birth date or friends and siblings. These details can be added with letter decals or stencils or freehand with paint.
