Tamil Nadu is not known for its beaches, the state is on the east coast of India, touching the Bay of Bengal. The only place that has good beach and attract tourists is Mamallapura or Mahabalipuram, which is in the south of Chennai.

Here are a few places that should be visited while you are on a trip to Tamil Nadu.

1) The Meenakshi Temple

The temple enshrines the triple breasted, fish eyed Goddess Meenakshi Amman. It is one of the most phenomenal piece of architecturewhich can be found in the entire world. It is considered as important as The Taj Mahal in the north of the country. It is a 6 hectare complex which has 12 gates protecting it, and has carvings of a lot of Gods, Goddesses, demons and heroes.

2) The Ramnathaswamy Temple

When Lord Ram made up his mind to worship Lord Shiva, he noticed that he would need a lingam to do the worship properly. Being a God, he sent Lord Hanuman (the flying monkey) to search the biggest ling around the Himalayan Mountain. When Rama decided to worship Shiva, he figured he'd need a lingam to do the thing properly. Being a God, he sent a flying monkey to find the biggest lingam around – in this case, a Himalayan mountain. But it took too long for Lord Hanuman to find the lingam so Rama's wife Goddess Sita made a sand lingam by herself, which was approved by Lord Shiva. This lingam is today enshrined in the middle of the temple.

3) The Relief Carving

Already we could not describe how amazing is Mamallapuram's stone art, there comes this Relief Carving, which is one of the best of its era and certainly one of the most heartrending works of ancient Indian art.
