Carve Out Your Niche: Tennis and Life

103 12
Tennis and Life Yesterday I was playing tennis with my son.
I was showing him how to hit a topspin shot, or volley, with his racquet.
To hit a topspin shot, you just brush the ball with your racquet when you swing, putting spin on the ball.
The advantage of this is that the ball is more likely to land in the court with the downward spin, and it is more difficult for your opponent to hit because it hops high in the air when it lands.
When you learn to hit a topspin volley, you move into a more elite group of tennis players.
Not everyone can hit the topspin shot.
It takes practice and dedication.
In life, as in tennis, we have a chance to learn the topspin volley, and move up to a more elite group, but in this case it's an elite group of people who get on the path to determine their own fate.
In my opinion, the top spin volley in the game of life is when you realize that you don't want to work at a 9-5 job any longer, or work at a job that is uninspiring.
Life should be spent doing what you want to do, work that benefits you and your family, and not some faceless corporation.
How do you get started? It starts by realizing that you are not satisfied with your work.
Once you come to that realization, you are half-way there.
Unforeseen Help to Reach Your Goals The planets line up and unseen forces seem to bring people and opportunities into your life to help you to realize your desire.
This is one of the most amazing parts of the whole process.
You may get a call from someone you haven't seen for years.
Or, you see a book, or magazine article may catch your eye on a topic that fires up your imagination.
Ideas might just pop up into your heart, if you are open to receiving them.
Listen to that still, small voice.
Determine where it would have you go, and what it would have you do.
Once you know what to do, do it with all your heart.
Throw yourself into it, like you have a giant by your side.
Act like you know you can't fail and you won't.
My Niche I started to carve out my niche when my hours were reduced at my 9-5 job.
Even before that, I knew that my regular job was not what I really wanted to be doing the rest of my life.
That reduction in my work hours motivated to begin a new part-time business buying fixer upper houses and turning them into rental properties.
Dissatisfaction with the status quo, or being laid off a job, may be an opportunity to change the direction of your life, and a chance to get on a path where I could determine my own fate.
