What is a dynasty league?
Definition:
A dynasty league is a fantasy league that is played out over the course of several seasons, with each team keeping some - or all - of its roster intact from year to year. Dynasty leagues are also called "keeper" leagues.
There are as many dynasty formats as there are leagues. Some allow players to keep one or two players from one year to the next. Others have teams keep most of their roster intact from year to year, with a draft or auction to fill in empty spots.
Depending on the league format, there may be a cost associated with keeping a specific player - a draft pick (in draft leagues) or the amount paid for that player at auction (in auction leagues). In some auction-style leagues, the player's salary may increase from year to year when kept as a way of encouraging owners to put some of the best players back into the following year's auction.
Examples:
The SiriusXM Fantasy Basketball Dynasty League will launch with a 22-round snake draft in October, 2012. For subsequent seasons, there will be a five-round draft, and 17 of the 22 roster spots each year will carry over.

Draft Strategy for Dynasty Leagues
The dynasty format has a big impact on player values, as players who can help a team for multiple seasons become more valuable than players nearing the end of their careers. A young player like Anthony Davis becomes a highly sought-after commodity in such leagues; while Davis might not put up huge numbers as a rookie, he has the potential to be dominant in years to come.Examples:
