The USA Cycling Code of Conduct
- According to USA Cycling's Web site, the organization gives individuals and groups that support the sport of cycling membership. However, the appendix to the code states that membership may be revoked at any time. If a member does violate the code of conduct, he could be suspended, denied membership or placed on probation after he has had a hearing.
- General violations of USA Cycling's Code of Conduct include entering a competition under an assumed name, attempting to fix the results of any race and acts of theft or fraud that happen along with a race. The code states that it is the rider's responsibility to know the rules of a course. Also, riders must only take the race route and can't deviate from that. If an official tells a competitor to withdraw from a race, the rider must do it immediately.
- USA Cycling's Code of Conduct states that riders that present a danger to the rest of the competitors may be disqualified. This can happen before, during or after a race. Competitors must make progress on the course with a bicycle. If a crash happens, the rider can finish the race by running with the bicycle. Riders may not use abusive language or conduct toward officials, other riders or spectators.
- The first appendix of USA Cycling's Code of Conduct states that the distribution of any substance banned by the World Antidoping Agency is prohibited. A coach or other official is also prohibited from using illegal drugs in the presence of another athlete. This rule applies if the official has authority over that athlete within cycling. A member who witnesses a violation must also promptly report it to the organization.
- Protests concerning the order of finish at a race are decided by a chief judge and that person's ruling is final. To file a protest regarding the qualifications of riders, a member needs to speak with a chief referee before a race. These protests may be made verbally and without a deposit. Other challenges must be made in writing, signed by the person making the protest and accompanied by a deposit.
