- 1). Cast on 78 stitches, using a number 3 needle. Knit one, purl one. Repeat to end. Continue for three inches. Use a gauge of 19 stitches and 26 rows for four inches.
- 2). Knit one,purl one for 11 stitches for the rib. Make one rib of 11 stitches. Repeat a second time for 12 stitches. Repeat one rib of 12 stitches until you get 84 stitches. Make one stitch by picking up a horizontal loop before the next stitch and knit in back of it.
- 3). Change to the larger needles and knit in a stockinette stitch for 81 rows. The back measures 15 1/2 inches.

- 1). Use the smaller needles. With the right side facing, pick up and knit 120 stitches evenly around the armhole. Bind off.
- 2). Create the collar. Using the smaller needles, return to 16 stitches on the holder for the center front neck on the right side.
- 3). Knit five stitches, make one, knit five, make one, knit five, then increase in the last stitch to make 19 stitches in total. This is the collar. Using the smaller needles, return to 16 stitches on the holder for the center front neck. This is the right side.
